Future: Fast Forward

Energy Storage
The largest business group in the history of the automotive industry in Spain.

Led by the Volkswagen Group and SEAT SA, Future: Fast Forward is the largest business group in the history of the automotive industry in Spain. This is an ambitious initiative that aims to transform the country into a European hub for electric mobility while also having a significant socio-economic impact due to its capillarity throughout the automotive value chain.

El PERTE VEC, Future: Fast Forward includes 62 companies that are developing 86 projects in 11 autonomous communities (Catalonia, Community of Madrid, Navarra, Basque Country, Cantabria, Aragón, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, Galicia and Community of Valencia).

CIDETEC’s contribution:

As part of the F3 framework: Future Fast Forward, CIDETEC Energy Storage leads the project Development of new lithium ion battery technology using solid electrolytes. Within this project solid-state battery (SSB) cell technology avoiding the challenges associated with using Li-metal as an anode is being developed. The proposed technology consists of the design of cells composed of the following components:

  • A non-flammable hybrid gel-type solid electrolyte with a good balance between energy density, power density, durability, safety, scalability and cost.
  • An anode (negative electrode) based on a mixture of graphite with SiOx active material obtained through aqueous processing. Optimising the anodic formulation will help to maximise energy density and guarantee optimum electrochemical performance and cell cyclability.
  • A cathode (positive electrode) with high-energy density NMC active material obtained by aqueous processing. Optimising the cathode formulation will help to maximise cell durability and electrochemical performance.
