The project:
The primary objective of the project is to design and develop a new manufacturing process for solid-state lithium-ion batteries (Solid State Batteries, SSB, GEN4) to be used in electric vehicles (EVs). These batteries offer superior energy density, enhanced safety, and longer lifespan, while significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to combustion engine vehicles, more notably, current commercial EV batteries (e.g., lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolytes, such as Panasonic’s batteries used in Tesla vehicles).
To achieve this, the existing semi-industrial production line for liquid-electrolyte lithium-ion batteries will undergo substantial improvement. Complementary equipment will be installed to enhance flexibility and optimization, paving the way for the development of a new production line dedicated to solid-state batteries.
CIDETEC’S role in the project:
In this context, the MOVES Singular Project II program represents a unique opportunity for the CIDETEC energy storage team. The program aims to promote the electrification of mobility in general and foster innovation by supporting ground breaking projects that facilitate the market introduction of emerging technologies.
The incentive program is part of the Plan to boost the automotive industry value chain and is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
