Lanzo Batteries is born, CIDETEC’s new company for the manufacture of space batteries

The experience of CIDETEC offers great innovation speed and competitive costs by employing technologies from the automotive sector.

In the coming months, Lanzo Batteries’ first battery will be launched into orbit.

The growth of the space sector globally and in Europe in particular has led to an increase in the demand for satellite components, including batteries. Lanzo Batteries, the new spin-off from CIDETEC, has been created to fill this market gap and meet the demand due to the increase in space launches in recent years.

The knowledge acquired by CIDETEC in researching the entire battery value chain for over 25 years allows Lanzo Batteries to offer cells with COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) components, as is done in the automotive sector. Adapting this process to space offers an economic advantage and provides a greater speed of innovation.

Lanzo Batteries offers modular and efficient battery concepts with reduced weight, resulting in greater power for the satellite. The batteries produced by the new spin-off integrate more reliable and robust monitoring methods through BMS (Battery Management Systems), which enhances safety.

The new company was presented during the ‘Space Meeting’ organized by HEGAN (Basque Aerospace Cluster) at the Zamudio Technology Park on May 30. Following this launch, Lanzo Batteries plans to put its first battery into orbit in the coming months and is already working on several missions with various industry collaborators.
