The founder and president of Egile Corporation XXI, Eduardo Junquera Pérez, was named the Best Basque Entrepreneur 2014 during the celebration of the 24th Basque Business Night
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao recently played host to the 24th Basque Business Night, an event attended by over 300 representatives from the economic and institutional arena. The Basque Business and Society Foundation’s Best Basque Entrepreneur 2014 award recognised the career of Eduardo Junquera Pérez (Durango, 1955), head of Egile Group. The jury also honoured the work of aeronautical groups ITP (‘Made in Euskadi’ award) and Aernnova (‘Business Innovation’ award) at the awards ceremony, with a fourth award (Euskal Makila) going to Wärtsilä Ibérica, in recognition of its nearly 30 years of drive and leadership in the Basque naval engine and power generation industry.
Eduardo Junquera and mechanical engineering as a business driver
Eduardo Junquera started working at the age of 15 at Talleres Pinondo, a sander and milling machine manufacturer, and continued his career in Compresores Puska. He later joined Tekniker, where he created the company’s Production Engineering department. He was also a pioneer in the development and implementation of the first Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) in Spain, as well as the introduction of R&D in the field of compressors. He created Sisfle in 1988 with the aim of applying the model of flexible manufacturing to the company. Soon after, in 1991, he became involved in the Zehatz project for the manufacture of high precision parts until breaking away from Sisfle in 1999 to undertake his ‘big business project’: Desarrollos Mecánicos de Precisión (DMP), a company based on challenging R&D plans and investments and created to target the aeronautical industry. The first major milestone for DMP came in 2003, when the company became the strategic partner and supplier for the French landing gear manufacturer Messier Dowty. Junquera’s career hit another milestone in 2005 with the launch of Egile Group, creating new companies in strategic industries including healthcare (Createch Medical), scientific infrastructure (HTS) and water (ETD, Tecexsa and Leorpe). Egile Group currently employs 260 professionals and has an annual turnover of 36 million euros.
