The new facilities, located in the MUBIL Smart and Sustainable Mobility Hub in Eskuzaitzeta, cover more than 7,000 m²
They add to the battery testing laboratories at MUBIL, creating a complex close to 10,000 m² and consolidating CIDETEC Energy Storage as a European benchmark in energy storage
The total investment in the new facilities has reached 22 million euros, with 150 researchers initially relocated there
CIDETEC Energy Storage now has its new headquarters in Eskuzaitzeta, located in the MUBIL Smart and Sustainable Mobility Hub. With these new infrastructures, CIDETEC Energy Storage triples its operational capacity and strengthens its position as one of the leading European centers in the development of energy storage technologies.
The new facility, which required a total investment of 22 million euros and spans more than 7,000 m², houses materials research laboratories, pilot and scale-up plants for the production of different battery formats, and 400 m² of dry room space that enhance the center’s research capacity, covering the entire battery value chain. Added to these capabilities are the 2,200 m² of additional annex laboratories located in the MUBIL building, dedicated to battery testing and characterization. Altogether, the CIDETEC Energy Storage complex reaches 10,000 m² of specialized space in energy storage. Already, 150 researchers and technologists are working at the new headquarters.
These capabilities enable the center to advance toward technology readiness levels close to TRL 9. Moreover, this new building will also host the activities of the spin-offs CIDEcell and LANZO Batteries, which already market their own products, with various cell and battery formats for space, respectively. The technology of two other recently launched spin-offs is also being developed here: KUDEBATT, created jointly with HONDANER for battery recycling, and OBS, in collaboration with MAIER, for the design and manufacturing of battery components, mainly battery management systems (BMS).
This qualitative leap reinforces CIDETEC Energy Storage’s strategy of driving the energy transition through innovative solutions for the development of electric mobility and the efficient integration of renewable energies, working closely with industry. CIDETEC will continue to maintain its corporate headquarters and the building dedicated to surface engineering in the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park in Miramón.
