CIDETEC Energy Storage participates in the European project RESiLiTE for the development of safer, more sustainable, and lighter batteries for electric vehicles

Energy Storage

The consortium aims to reduce the weight of the battery pack by 35%, allowing for an increase in its energy density and efficiency.

CIDETEC Energy Storage is part of the European project RESiLiTE (Robust and economical battery packs based on silicon-rich cells and lightweight thermal efficient design), which aims to design a new battery system for electric vehicles that combines large-format cylindrical cells (46xx) with an innovative thermoplastic housing reinforced with sustainable additives.

This solution will allow a weight reduction of up to 35% compared to current aluminum structures, thus increasing its energy density and efficiency. In other words, it will allow more energy to be stored without increasing the size. In addition, the new batteries will incorporate an advanced cooling system and intelligent algorithms that will make it possible to charge from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes, while maintaining a high level of safety even under demanding usage conditions. Another major challenge of the project will be to improve the sustainability of the system, focusing on recyclable materials with lower environmental impact.

CIDETEC Energy Storage will play a key role in RESiLiTE by being responsible for the development and integration of the battery management system (BMS) software on INFINEON hardware, as well as the validation of advanced functionalities based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), which will enable early detection of overheating risks, estimation of the internal temperature of the cells, and optimization of thermal management algorithms.

The project is coordinated by Kautex Textron GMBH & CO KG, has a budget of more than 6 million euros, and will be completed by mid-2028.
