The Gipuzkoa Climate Change Foundation / Naturklima and CIDETEC have signed a collaboration agreement for technical assistance in the launch, deployment, and promotion of ZIRKULAR BAT+, the circular battery hub of Gipuzkoa. This contract, valued at €205,095 and valid for the years 2025 and 2026, continues the regional circular economy strategy focused on batteries and sustainability, which Gipuzkoa has been developing in recent years since the launch of the ZIRKULAR BAT+ initiative in 2023.
The agreement was signed by José Ignacio Asensio, President of Naturklima and Deputy for Sustainability of the DFG, and Javier Rodríguez, General Director of CIDETEC, reinforcing both entities’ commitment to developing a circular battery ecosystem with global reach.
ZIRKULAR BAT+ is consolidating as a unifying element aimed at fostering a circular battery ecosystem in Gipuzkoa, promoting innovation and sustainability in a strategic sector. This hub is part of a broader regional strategy aligned with other key initiatives, such as the creation of an Energy Community and the Eskuzaitzeta Living Lab. Additionally, a Recycled Battery Materials Laboratory under NATURKLIMA will be installed at CIDETEC’s new facilities within the Eskuzaitzeta Innovation Hub.
José Ignacio Asensio highlighted that “this agreement represents a decisive step in Gipuzkoa’s circular economy strategy, ensuring continuity, innovation, and new opportunities for the region.” Meanwhile, Javier Rodríguez stated that “CIDETEC will contribute its expertise to establish ZIRKULAR BAT+ as an international benchmark, fostering collaboration and technological development”.
