iModBatt Project launched

iModBatt, standing for “Industrial Modular Battery Pack Concept Addressing High Energy Density, Environmental Friendliness, Flexibility and Cost Efficiency for Automotive Applications”, has been launched at CIDETEC Energy Storage on 10-11 October 2017 in a sunny San Sebastian.

Coordinated by CIDETEC Energy Storage, iModBatt project gathers 15 partners from six European countries.

The aim of iModBatt is to design and manufacture, with the minimum environmental impact, a high energy density modular battery pack, which is flexible enough to be used in automotive and small stationary applications.

This battery pack will be suitable for industrial automated assembly with an easy disassembly design, to make possible the shift from primary applications to secondary ones, and to facilitate the battery pack recyclability or parts replacement if necessary.

CIDETEC will be the coordinator of the project and the main results disseminator. Regarding specific topics, CIDETEC will lead the work package focused on cell selection and battery pack sizing, its main role being the characterization, modelling and simulation of commercial cells in order to fit he most suitable cell to the battery pack that will be designed.

On the other hand, as technical coordinator CIDETEC will actively participate in technical discussion of all work packages with an special contribution in the exploitation of results.

As a final item in the kick-off meeting agenda, the iModBatt partners had the opportunity to visit CIDETEC Energy Storage facilities, including its pilot plant for battery manufacturing and battery testing laboratory.

iModBatt project was awarded the highest mark in the proposal evaluation process with 15 points out of 15.
