The MEDINSPAIN project aims to accelerate resource optimisation and the recovery of waste generated during battery production, as well as from batteries at the end of their service life. The project seeks to enable the reuse of these batteries in second-life applications and the extraction of critical materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite. These recovered materials will be used to supply raw materials for the manufacture of new batteries, molten salts for thermal storage and frits for the ceramics industry.
The project aspires to develop pilot-scale pre-industrial solutions in key areas of the battery recycling value chain. This includes the safe automation of processes currently carried out manually, such as classification, discharge and dismantling. CIDETEC’S role in the project:
To strengthen its positioning as an expert in the development and manufacture of batteries by expanding its expertise in direct recycling, modelling for battery sorting, and the promotion of extended battery service life. CIDETEC seeks to play a more holistic role within the battery value chain while contributing to greater sustainability and the implementation of circular economy models in the battery manufacturing market.
